Intensive Thai Language Course Overview

In our Intensive Thai Language Course you will learn listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing as well as cultural knowledge.

Example of Daily Schedule

Monday to Friday:
08.00 The school opens. You can order breakfast in our coffee shop, leave your laundry at our reception and check your email at the computers.
09.00 – 10.40 Lesson 1 and 2
10.40 – 11.00 Fruit Break
11.00 – 12.30 Lesson 3 and 4
12.30 – 13.30 Lunch
13.30 – 14.30 Lesson 5
14.30 – 17.00 Time for doing homework, use the internet etc.
17.00 The school closes. 

The one year course is divided into Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Proficient levels. Below you can read summaries of what is being taught at each level. Please note that lesson plans and schedules can be changed without notice as the courses develop and improve over time.


Beginner Level 1

Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Word order in sentences
- Question words
- Tenses in Thai
- Introducing oneself
- Numbers
- Asking and giving personal information
- Eating out (restaurant and food)
- Shopping (bargaining) and common items
- All consonants and vowels (how to read and write)
- Reading rules
- How to break apart words and sentences into syllables
- Tone analysis


Beginner Level 2

Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Understanding and retelling stories
- Describing preferences
- Days and months
- Telling time
- Hobbies and daily chores
- Family
- Health and illnesses
- Reading aloud (with correct pronunciation)
- Increase reading speed
- Read sentences and short paragraphs
- Dictation of the most common Thai words
- Describe pictures using known words (without dictionary) approx. 5-10 sentences
- Write short messages


Beginner Level 3

Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Travel in Thailand
- Accommodation and transportation
- Animals and pets
- Give opinions (support or object)
- Ask for and give suggestions
- Talk about experiences and hopes
- Discuss and find solutions to problems
- Read longer texts with controlled vocabulary
- Read descriptions of people, things, places, etc.
- Read postcards expressing feelings and personal experiences
- Write descriptions of people, things, places, etc.
- Write postcards (informal)


Intermediate Level 1

Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Invite or ask someone to do something for you
- Express feelings
- Talk about yourself and make new friends
- Tell stories and discuss about relationships
- Listen to Thai songs
- Ask for and give suggestions about personal problems
- Debate about relationship issues and other topics.
- Read stories with controlled vocabulary
- Read letters, emails and chat messages
- Write personal letters
- Read and write short essays about yourself, close friends, partner or family members.


Intermediate Level 2

Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Listen to stories and talk about Thai culture
- How to bless and congratulate on common occasions
- Greet, apologize and show sympathy with different levels of formality
- Discuss good and bad manners, as well as the cultural differences between Thailand and foreign countries.
- How to handle cultural differences
- Read stories about Thai manner and culture
- Read articles about Thai culture
- Write greeting cards
- Write essays where you express and discuss opinions on various topics


Intermediate Level 3

Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Ask for permission and deny politely
- Give opinions and elaborate on your reasons
- Discuss education and job opportunities
- Job interview practice
- Useful expressions at work
- How to behave at a Thai working place
- Read stories about education and jobs
- Read and make job advertisements
- Read and write sick leave letters and errand leave letters
- Read and write job applications


Advanced

The Advanced course levels cover a core of grammar and writing practice but the vocabulary and topics discussed depend a lot on world events. This is therefore just a brief overview.
Listening & SpeakingReading & Writing
- Discuss freely various topics which catch students' or public attention.
- Expand vocabulary useful in everyday life in various areas, such as politics, up-to-date news/events, entertainment, culture and history.
- Improve fluency and ability to speak politely and properly.
- Practice to understand real-life material, such as TV programs, movies, songs etc.
- Practice to discuss, debate and argue in the same way as native speakers.
- Read and understand real material, such as news clips, blog posts, magazines, instructions and internet sources/forums etc.
- Practice to read faster and give opinions about what you read.
- Improve your ability to write essays, articles and blog post.


Proficient

The Proficient course is planned by the teacher together with you and is based on your specific interests and language goals. During this course you will write a comprehensive report on a topic of your choosing.
